Built-in operating system copy utilities are designed with a "zero-tolerance" policy for errors. They are optimized for perfect, high-speed storage media like internal SSDs. When a system utility hits a single unreadable sector on an optical disc, it attempts to read it a few times, fails, and completely aborts the entire file transfer. It lacks the advanced error-handling mechanisms required to bypass broken structures and rescue the surrounding healthy data blocks.

To bypass these system-level limitations, you need a specialized tool that uses advanced low-level reading algorithms rather than relying on standard operating system protocols.

When you try to drag and drop files from a damaged disc using Windows Explorer or macOS Finder, the process usually freezes, crashes your computer, or aborts halfway through. Why does this happen?
